In the midst of a crowd
I am alone
I have a voice
but I am not heard
perhaps I have a voice
but I know not how to use it
In this place
I am just another face
making friends
has never come easy
in a culture not my own
I struggle to adjust
I try to be
where friendship might possibly hide
yet is seems
my finding skills are lacking.
In the midst of a crowd
I feel alone
I talk,
but I am not understood
my world so far removed
from the one at hand
has yet to find
the bridge by which to cross.
tears roll down my face
as I despair.
how long will it take?
or is it not a question of time?
I ask myself
what I need to change
to find that narrow bridge
by which to reach the other side
to stand in a crowd
and no longer feel alone.
